What Goes Into a Driveway That Lasts

  • Check that no utility or power lines are in the work area, and if there are, locate them exactly so they are not disturbed

  • Grade the site so water drains away from your home and foundation

  • Install an adequate sub-base and let it settle before any asphalt goes down

  • Lay a thick, even layer of high-quality asphalt and compact it properly

Skipping any of these steps is how driveways end up cracking, sinking or holding water after one or two winters. Doing them properly is how a driveway stands up to Canadian winters year after year. When an existing driveway is past the point of patching, repaving is usually the better investment.
